What is the MLS?
MLS stands for Multiple Listing Service. Despite what you read or hear, the general public does not have true access to the MLS. What you get access to is a system where brokers cooperate with each other to display listings on each other’s firm web pages. This system is known as the Internet Data Exchange (IDX) System. The IDX System displays very limited fields of data compared to the MLS mainly because much of the information in the MLS contain proprietary or confidential information. Only licensed North Carolina Realtors or real estate brokers who subscribe to the Carolina MLS or Charlotte MLS have full, unlimited access to all data information.
The Carolina MLS and Charlotte MLS mapping system consists of areas. To start and to help you visualize how our local MLS map is structured click here.
